CitizensNYC announces Trinity Church Wall Street Neighborhood Business Grant Awardees

CitizensNYC and Trinity Church Wall Street are proud to support Lower Manhattan business owners with $150,000 direct cash grants invested into 18 neighborhood businesses below 14th Street.

Grantees include Albert Lam Bespoke, a bespoke master tailor in historic Chinatown NYC since 1978, and Chinatown meat shop 47 Division Street, a local family-owned butcher shop that has served NYC for the last 25 years.

Recipient Bluestockings Cooperative, a Lower East Side bookstore and community space, has historically served as a sanctuary for queer communities for 22 years, evolving from a women’s bookstore into an intersectional feminist community center rooted in care and mutual aid. Like many small businesses, the pandemic shifted their business model to a hybrid virtual and in-person blend. The bookstore leads workshops, sells books online and in-person, and continues to expand its online marketing strategy.

These funds will defray infrastructure and operational costs, and launch online delivery systems, new marketing efforts, and other innovative approaches to help keep business doors open and communities connected.

“Small businesses are an essential thread in the fabric of a stronger community,” said Dr. Rahsaan Harris, CEO of CitizensNYC. “We’re grateful to Trinity Wall Street Church for building stronger neighborhoods by providing crucial funding for local businesses. When these one-of-a-kind businesses flourish, we all benefit.”

The awardees will have access to CitizensNYC's vast network of like-minded community leaders to move their ideas into action, make new paths and create opportunities for a better future.

Along with its generous grants program, which funds work to advance racial justice and affordable housing, Trinity Church Wall Street supports programming and deep community involvement in its neighborhood of Lower Manhattan.

About CitizensNYC:

Citizens Committee for New York City’s mission is to help New Yorkers – especially those in low-income areas – improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods. CitizensNYC empowers residents to solve problems they identify in their neighborhoods, such as the need for economic opportunity and public safety, or local beautification and environmental sustainability.

CitizensNYC provides microgrants averaging $3,000 to hundreds of New Yorkers each year who are addressing these issues and more. In 2021, CitizensNYC awarded more than $1 million in funding through 278 grants to local community groups and small businesses that drive economic growth. Since 1975, CitizensNYC has promoted the spirit of volunteerism, local engagement, and equity that drives our work.
