Chenchita's Community Garden

Chenchitas Community Garden is improving their compost system in order to take in more food scraps from their community. In addition to collecting food scraps from neighbors, they are also collecting coffee grounds from local coffee shops for their five-bin system.

Chencita's Community Garden is having local, neighborhood artists come together to decorate the shed in the garden that serves as an arts and common space for the community. It is also making repairs to its greenhouse, building additional garden beds, planting more vegetation and flowers in the community garden, and putting on a knitting and crocheting workshop.

Chenchita's Edible Farm Community Garden is organizing "Spring Alive Community Celebration," an event to establish the garden as a community resource. The event is involving youth groups, schools, and senior centers. Local organizations and gardeners are doing mini-workshops on topics ranging from creating natural bug repellant and making bird and bat houses to composting and the basics of hydroponic gardening. Event participants are also being invited to decorate tiles to cover one side of the garden's new shed.

Chenchita's Community Garden is conducting a compost and recycling education project by creating a waste sort challenge in the garden, which will guide community members through identifying recyclable and compostable items. They are purchasing a compost tumbler to collect food waste from the garden and neighbors.
